Midwifery as a concept and profession goes back hundreds if not thousands of years, and now it’s shaping the childbirth experience at ��ɫtv Langone Health.

Eugenia Montesinos, CNM, who joined ��ɫtv Langone in June as the inaugural director of midwifery services at Tisch Hospital, is helping expand these services across the health system. She and her team deliver care with a holistic approach, focusing on minimal interventions during childbirth, while ensuring obstetricians and specialists are available if needed.

“Our goal is to create a supportive environment where patients feel empowered and cared for, whether their birth is straightforward or requires additional medical intervention,” Montesinos said. “Midwifery is about blending evidence-based care with deep respect for the birthing process and the people at its center.”

Patients like Ginna Wilkinson and Analys Muñoz have seen this philosophy in action.

Wilkinson gave birth to her son Xavier in October, with Eugenia as her midwife.

“It was such a wonderful experience, and I felt really taken care of,” Wilkinson said. “Eugenia coached me through everything, and when I needed medical intervention, the team worked seamlessly together.” Montesinos also supported Wilkinson’s husband and mother during the experience by explaining everything in both English and Spanish.

Muñoz is expecting her second child and has been receiving prenatal care with the midwife Aisha L. Olivacce, CNM. Having delivered her first child at ��ɫtv Langone with an obstetrician, Muñoz chose midwifery this time: “I wanted to deliver here again, and I’ve been really happy with the care.”

Midwifery at ��ɫtv Langone bridges tradition and modern medicine, creating a collaborative and compassionate approach to childbirth.
